Chorus

DEFINITION

The most memorable and repeated section of a track, typically containing the central hook and highest energy.

The Chorus is the structural centrepiece of a song — the section that contains the primary hook, the most memorable melodic phrase, and typically the highest energy and fullest instrumentation. It is the section listeners remember, sing along to, and return to. A strong chorus is the single most important driver of streaming success across all platforms.

The chorus typically follows each verse and is repeated multiple times throughout the track. Each repetition should be recognisably the same but may have slight variations — added instrumentation, vocal harmonies, or dynamic intensification in later repetitions. The first chorus arrival time is critical for streaming performance: a chorus that arrives after 60 seconds risks losing impatient listeners, while a chorus that arrives within 30-45 seconds captures attention early enough to prevent skipping.

SongScore's structural analysis identifies chorus sections by detecting repeated melodic and harmonic patterns with the highest energy and density in the track. The first chorus arrival time, the number of chorus repetitions, and the energy differential between verse and chorus are all reported as structural metrics that feed into platform fit scoring and playlist potential predictions.
