Save Intent

DEFINITION

The predicted likelihood that a listener will add the track to their library or a playlist, indicating strong long-term engagement.

Save Intent is SongScore's prediction of how likely a listener is to save a track to their library or add it to a personal playlist — the strongest positive signal in Spotify's algorithmic ranking system.

Save Intent is driven by: emotional resonance and memorability (tracks with clear, distinctive emotional character are more likely to be saved), hook strength and repeatability (tracks with a strong, recognizable hook encourage repeat listens and saves), production polish (well-mixed tracks feel "finished" and worth returning to), and genre-mood alignment with listener taste (tracks that clearly occupy a recognizable genre-mood space match listener expectations and saving behaviour).

A Save Intent score above 70 indicates strong library-add potential — listeners are likely to save the track after a single listen. A score between 40 and 70 is moderate. A score below 40 indicates the track may stream but not accumulate the save-based algorithmic boost that drives long-term growth.

Save Intent is the single most important sub-factor for long-term Spotify algorithmic performance, because saved tracks continue to surface in algorithmic playlists (Release Radar, Discover Weekly) for months after release.
