The Emotional Profile is SongScore's characterisation of a track's emotional identity across 31 distinct mood dimensions. It maps each track onto the Circumplex Model of Affect — a two-dimensional emotional space where valence (positive-to-negative) and arousal (activating-to-calming) form the axes, and specific moods occupy regions within that space.
The Emotional Profile is presented as a ranked list of the top nine mood dimensions with their 0-to-1 scores. A track's emotional clarity — how strongly one or two moods dominate versus a diffuse profile across many moods — is a key insight. Emotionally clear tracks (one or two dominant moods above 0.7) tend to perform better on TikTok and in editorial playlists. Emotionally complex tracks (many moods between 0.4 and 0.6) may be more interesting artistically but are harder for algorithms and curators to categorise.
The Emotional Profile feeds directly into the Analysis Report's narrative description of the track's emotional identity and drives the Playlist Match feature's mood-based matching. It also informs platform strategy: TikTok rewards emotional clarity, Apple Music editorial teams respond to nuanced emotional complexity, and Spotify's algorithm uses emotional stability as a signal for listener retention prediction.
